And it was yet another one sided affair in Perth, with Australia crushing Afghanistan by 275 runs, also their biggest win in terms of the run margin in the World Cups.

Winning the toss, Afghanistan chose to bowl first and managed to get an early breakthrough in the form of Aaron Finch. However, after that it was a Warner show ( 178 off 133 balls) followed by fireworks from Glenn Maxwell  ( 88 off 39 balls). Going through a lean patch, Steve Smith, was finally back among runs although he missed out on a well deserved century. There wasn’t much to offer by the Afghanistan bowlers and Dawalat Zardan became a victim of the onslaught from Maxwell and gave away more than 100 runs and surprisingly bowled the only maiden over of the inning. Australia managed to set the highest score ever in World cup- 417 for the loss of 6 wickets, surpassing the previous best by India (413-1) in the 2007 world cup.

In response, Afghanistan started steadily, but couldn’t deal with the fire of Mitchel Johnson, well accompanied by Starc, and bundled out for 142 in under 38 overs.

Australia would be pretty satisfied with the performance by Steve Smith getting among runs and Johnson getting into his groove.

For Afghanistan, there weren’t much positives to take through, however such experiences would definitely help them in their way to grow. They have two games left against the formidable New Zealand and England.
