Former Los Angeles Lakers star Markieff Morris signed with Miami Heat last month. The 10-year NBA veteran will now ply his trade with the sixth NBA team of his career. A 2020 NBA champion with the Lakers, Morris has appeared in 698 games over his career. He was with the Lakers last season and played 61 games during the regular season.

The Lakers have assembled a ‘super team’ ahead of the 2021-22 season. They have gone through a massive roster overhaul during the off-season and have signed 14 players so far. They have also let go of 14 players.

Markieff Morris was one of the departures during the off-season. But the 32-year-old forward has recently revealed that he was expecting to return to LA this season. However, that didn’t happen, and he signed with Miami Heat.

Markieff Morris expected to return to Los Angeles Lakers

Miami Heat star Markieff Morris recently appeared in an interview on ‘The Sun-Sentinel’. During the interview. Morris revealed that he expected to play for the Lakers this season.

“It’s different,” Morris told Ira Winderman of ‘The Sun-Sentinel’.

“I really didn’t expect it. It’s business sometimes. There isn’t too much I can say about that. It was super unexpected. For sure, I thought I was going back to the Lakers. But, sometimes I’m not in teams’ plans and that’s how it works sometimes.”

Morris appeared 100 times (31 starts) for the Lakers in two seasons. Last season, he averaged 6.7 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 1.2 APG, and 19.7 mins. He has appeared in 49 playoff games in his career and has averaged 7.5 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 1.2 APG. With so much experience at his disposal, he will surely be a quality addition for the Heat in the coming season.

2020-21 NBA season was a season to forget was the Lakers. However, their season was spoiled due to injuries. With LeBron James and Anthony Davis at their disposal, Lakers management decided to push for some more titles in the next few years. This has resulted in them adding 14 players to their roster, such as Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook, Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan, among others. It’ll be interesting to see how the team fares in the coming season.
