Just a day before 2023, Mr. Olympia, one of the strongest contenders in the Men’s Open divisions, sadly backed out from the competition. His sudden withdrawal has created a stir in the bodybuilding realm. Many former bodybuilders had rooted for him and openly declared him the next champion of the 2023 Olympia. But unfortunately, the Mutant will not perform on the stage.

After his announcement, the entire bodybuilding fraternity wished him a speedy recovery. A Nigerian bodybuilder also took to Instagram to share his thoughts on Walker pulling out of Mr. Olympia.

The Nigerian IFBB pro, Chinedu Andrew Obiekea, aka Andrew Jacked, also shared a post for Nick Walker. Both these bodybuilders had taken part in the 2023 Arnold Classic. After the dramatic end of the show, Walker and Jacked walked away with an additional $10,000 each. Walker came second to Dauda and Jacked finished at the third-place.

Despite being his competitor on the stage, the 38-year-old bodybuilder uploaded a heartfelt story on his Instagram account. His message read, “Was so so looking forward to another dance with you bro at the weekend, but shit happens! Get well Soon! Dust it off, come back stronger @nick_walker39.”

Among the many bodybuilders that had to miss participating in the Mr. Olympia, Nick Walker’s was one of the most surprising. The question that has arisen is why the runner-up of Olympia 2022 withdrew at the last moment, regardless of enduring a grueling year of preparation and dedicating many years of effort to clinch the coveted title.

Nick Walker’s tough decision ahead of Olympia

In a video shared by Mr. Olympia’s official Instagram page, Walker was seen saying,“I have some very unfortunate news to deliver to you guys. I will not be competing in this year’s Mr. Olympia due to a hamstring tear that I did right before we actually came here, and I tried to push through it.” He further described that he tried to get treatment, but the issue got worse, leading to him having to withdraw from the event.

He showed gratitude to his team and thanked them. In the middle of the video, he got emotional and mentioned, ‘I kept telling Matt every day I’m gonna win your first one and then you know last second this happens and it just s*cks.’ He confidently added, “I know myself there’s just another reason for me to come back stronger, another reason to come back.” The withdrawal of many athletes from the prestigious event seems to have slightly dimmed the sparkle of Mr. Olympia.
