Former UFC middleweight champion and MMA legend, Anderson Silva, made a successful return to the boxing ring. ‘The Spider’ took on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and put on a show in the ring. And in trademark Anderson Silva fashion, he beat the Mexican with relative ease.

The two fought as the main event of a historic card that featured the last bout of legendary boxer Julio Cesar Chavez. And ‘The Spider’ put to bed any questions regarding his boxing ability with an impressive display. Ultimately, he won a 77-75,75-77, and 77-75 split decision.

How did the fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Anderson Silva pan out?

Despite switching sports and not entering the boxing ring for over 15 years, Silva started the bout brightly. He had the reach advantage and used it to good effect. The former UFC champion threw snappy jabs and kept the Mexican at bay throughout the fight.

The 2-1 boxer also showed off his incredible defense as he avoided most of Chavez Jr.’s attacks. At one point in the fight, ‘The Spider’ even taunted Chavez Jr. to hit him. Thus, he was extremely comfortable. Chavez Jr. had his moments in the fight, especially when he targeted the body. However, none of his advances hurt ‘The Spider.’

Chavez Jr. never found a rhythm, and Silva’s slick movement and awkwardness contributed to this. In addition, the former middleweight champion of the world never completely closed the distance on Silva. Therefore, he could not let his hands go.
