Caleb Plant Details Billy Joe Saunders’ Path to Victory Against Canelo Alvarez

Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders will lock horns on May 8, putting all the three super-middleweight titles (WBC, WBA, and WBO) at stake. While Saunders will also put his undefeated record on the line, he will look for the opportunity to become the second man after Floyd Mayweather to defeat Alvarez.

That said, it would demand a lot from the WBO titleholder and in that case, Saunders will also have the risk of losing his championship. But, fellow IBF champion, Caleb Plant, has some valuable advice for the Brit. Akin to Saunders, Plant is also waiting to get his shot at Canelo Alvarez and has recently previewed an in-ring collision between Alvarez and Saunders.

Speaking with Boxing Social, ‘Sweet Hands’ said, “I think a bit more stiff, I think he’s got a quite a bit more attributes physical attributes to him. Whether hand, speed, foot speed, boxing ability, boxing IQ. But again, you know, he said, it’s up to him to go in there and implement those things. And it’s up to him to not allow Canelo to negate those things and if he does, it’s up to him to have to figure out a new way.”

Plant understands the fact that Alvarez is one of the best, and all the lucrative attributes can also fall short in front of him. So, he seemingly made Saunders aware of that.
“So you can have all the attributes in the world and all the boxing ability, but if you can’t go in there and implement it, then you know it doesn’t mean too much,” added Caleb Plant.

Following a lopsided super middleweight title defense against Avni Yildirim, Alvarez announced his third straight fight in the division against Saunders. Being active since December, the P4P king is clearly looking for challenges and ‘Superb’ Saunders can bring him the best test at 168 lbs at this stage.

The 31-year-old Saunders, who has a 30-0 record with 14 KOs, can be a problem for Alvarez But if the Mexican arrives in his best form, the tables would turn real quick. That said, Canelo Alvarez seems to be the favorite in the matchup, despite Saunder’s undefeated run and championship wins.
