Former IBF super middleweight champion, Caleb Plant, has long been considered one of the strongest fighters in the middleweight division, and he is also set to prove his mettle once again. He is scheduled to take on David Benavidez at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada. Moreover, Benavidez’s WBC interim super middleweight title will also be on the line during the fight. The duo recently had a rather explosive press conference. And, Plant made it a point to delve into the details of their longstanding beef.

Plant was recently on an interview at Ahora o Nunca ESPN. In conversation, the interviewer asked him about the Benavidez situation. Plant responded by mentioning that it was initially harmless fight banter. He said, “You know in the beginning it was just agreeing to disagree, on who’s better. You know, I think I’m better than you. No, I’m better than you. I can beat you. No, you can’t. Just normal fight banter. And, I think it just continuously grew.”

He further added, “Where it kinda went over the line for me, was when Jose Sr, David’s dad, and some of his team members started talking about my daughter, Alia.”

Notably, Plant’s daughter, Alia, passed away in 2015, due to a brain abnormality. Jose Benavidez Sr., on the other hand, felt that Plant was using her name for fame. And mentioned that he should stop talking about her.

The fiery Caleb Plant vs David Benavidez press conference
