Daniel Dubois Explains Why He Supported Billy Joe Saunders After His Loss

Billy Joe Saunders’ injury has been the talk of the sport over the weekend. The former champion suffered multiple breaks in his orbital bone in his fight against Canelo Alvarez. And Daniel Dubois, who suffered the same injury, has given his take on the subject.
Dubois dealt with the same injury in his bout against Joe Joyce and, as a result, took a knee till a count-out. Following his actions, many boxers criticized Dubois and even labeled him a quitter, including Saunders. Now, Dubois has had his say.
The 15-1 boxer explained why he supported Saunders, and Michael Benson was quick to catch onto it. The reporter took to his Twitter and revealed what Dubois said. He wrote,

“I’m not going to rub it in for Billy. He’ll be going through it now with the eye injury. Maybe he’ll regret what he said about me [after the Joe Joyce loss]. Maybe this might teach him something. It could be a life lesson.”
This response from Dubois showed his class at a young age. When he lost, the former super-middleweight champion said he would fight on even if both his opponent broke both his eye sockets. However, Dubois showed he is the more mature fighter and took the high road.

The highly rated heavyweight will return to the ring on June 5, which will be almost seven months since his last fight against Joe Joyce. The 23-year-old will face Bogdan Dinu to get his career back on track. While it will be a good fight, fans will be curious to see how Dubois does after so long out of the sport.
