Former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. is set to face Luis Ortiz in a sensational 12-round tango. Meanwhile, former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is also on cloud nine after the confirmation of his fight with Robert Helenius. Recently, Wilder opened up about his thoughts on the upcoming Ruiz vs Ortiz showdown.

Wilder was a guest on ‘The PBC Podcast‘ hosted by Michael Rosenthal and Kenneth Bouhairie. In conversation, he was asked, “Another heavyweight fight, Andy Ruiz Luis Ortiz. These are two fighters you know well, especially Ortiz. Based on their recent performances, how do you see that fight playing out?”

Wilder responded by saying that he has his money on Ortiz. And that it was unfortunate that Ortiz has not gotten enough opportunities. He also mentioned Ortiz, and himself have developed a bond of brotherhood after their fights.

Moreover, he further added, “With this fight, I see Ortiz winning this fight in a devastating fashion. And controlling the fight. You know a lot of people look at his age and stuff. But, age only goes so far, It only defines a person so far.”

Additionally, while stating that age is ‘just a number’, he also mentioned that he looks forward to Ortiz doing great things. And that an Ortiz vs Wilder 3 fight might be in the cards soon.

Notably, Ruiz will face Ortiz at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on September 4, 2022.

What’s in store for Deontay Wilder?

Deontay Wilder was last seen in the ring in 2021 when he faced Tyson Fury for their trilogy fight. However, Wilder was unable to win the fight. As Fury emerged a victor via an 11th-round KO.

It was recently reported that he was set to make a return to the ring by finalizing a deal with Robert Helenius. Notably, Helenius is a Finnish professional boxer who holds multiple heavyweight championships.

In fact, the duo will face each other at the Barclays Center in New York City on October 15, 2022.
