Despite Failed Doping Test Reports, Claressa Shields Gives Benefit of the Doubt to Alycia Baumgardner

In the high-stakes world of professional boxing, doping tests are standard. They maintain the integrity of the sport, ensuring an even playing field for all competitors. However, when the results of such tests come into question, they can stir waves.

On August 12, Alycia Baumgardner unveiled a revelation on her Twitter handle. She shared, “On August 12, 2023, an ‘A Sample’ I provided on July 12, 2023, resulted in an ‘Adverse Analytical Finding’ of mesterolone and methenolone acetate metabolites…”

She vehemently denied having any knowledge of or interaction with these substances. Emphasizing her clean record, she pointed out the stark contrast of her subsequent sample taken after the July 15th fight, which tested negative.

However, it wasn’t just Baumgardner’s statement that caught attention. In a heartening display of camaraderie, fellow boxing powerhouse, Claressa Shields, weighed in. Further, responding to Baumgardner’s tweet, she asserted, “Ms. Undisputed speaks, I truly believe her and will wait for the facts. I remember when Gabriels tested positive & the first person I talked to was Baumgardner and she said, ‘I gotta make sure I get me and my next opponent signed up for testing!’ That’s a clean athlete talking!”

This comes at the heels of another prominent male boxer testing positive for drugs.

Dillian Whyte fails drug test

Former Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Dillian Whyte was cancelled after the latter failed a doping test. The Anti-Doping Association found “adverse analytic findings” as part of the anti-doping protocol. Fortunately, the main event was not called off, and Finnish boxer Robert Helenius was able to fill in as a replacement.

However, this is not the first time that Whyte failed a drug test.  Whyte tested positive for methylhexaneamin before his fight against Oscar Rivas.
