Floyd Mayweather may be making a return to the combat sports industry sometime later this year. However, he is looking at a more indirect approach to the sport in his comeback.
As per reports, a huge celebrity boxing event is in the works. According to the information that has been released, the event is going to host boxing matches between prominent personalities.
The event has been tentatively named “Fight for a Cause”. The proceeds from the event will be going straight to the United States military charities and to raise funds for COVID-19 relief.
Reports indicate that a lot of big names will feature on the event’s roster. Among those names is that of Floyd Mayweather. However, he will not be stepping into the ring as we would have it. Money, tasked with the responsibility of judging the bouts, will be scoring fights throughout the event.
Prominent faces from the worlds of boxing, the NBA, Hollywood, comedy, and MMA will be making an appearance alongside Money.
Floyd Mayweather to make good on his promise of retirement
Money revealed that he will not be fighting professionally after he finally hung his gloves up. The last time he laced his gloves up to fight inside the ring was against Conor McGregor in a crossover match in 2017.
However, he has always said that he would consider making a return to the ring for the right price.
Floyd Mayweather is one of the finest boxers ever to walk the face of the earth. Having fought 50 fights and won every single one of them. He retired with his unblemished record at the top of the food chain. Many argue his journey through the ranks to be that from a mythical story.
An Instagram post revealing his comeback in 2020 late last year, came to fans as a glimmer of hope to fans. However, none would have guessed that he had something entirely different in mind with respect to a return to the boxing circuit.
Nonetheless, it is something that the fans have been looking forward to for quite some time and now.
Are you as excited as we are?
