Canelo Alvarez has looked invincible in almost all of his professional outings, except for the one against Floyd Mayweather in 2013. Although several other opponents could also trouble the P4P king in the ring, Mayweather is the only one to have tasted victory over Alvarez. That said, Mayweather never shies from touting it as one of his easiest wins.

The undefeated boxer made Alvarez look vulnerable, something which several boxers have tried to sample. But have failed over the years. As Mayweather has retired, the modern-era fighters need to channelize a similar spirit he showed against Canelo, in order to take down the P4P king again.

WBC has cleared Alvarez’s option of moving up to the cruiserweight division (200 lbs) and challenging Ilunga Makabu for the world title. Meanwhile, Makabu recently met Floyd Mayweather at an event and seemingly learned a few fighting tips from ‘The Best Ever’.

FightHub TV captured both the pugilist together. While the words they shared were unclear, Mayweather seemingly gave him the tips to topple Canelo Alvarez. Well, 23-year-old Alvarez has developed brilliantly and has learned a lot since his defeat against Floyd Mayweather. Hence, it may not be that easy to beat him, relying just on Mayweather’s advice.

Currently, on a 9-fight win streak, Makabu will put his WBC cruiserweight belt at stake against Thabiso Mchuni on January 29. On bagging a potential win, Makabu can call out Canelo Alvarez. Meanwhile, he had claimed to knockout Alvarez even before meeting Mayweather. Hence, the Congo boxer clearly has self-belief, and we can see him enter the ring against Canelo Alvarez shortly.

Despite having a clearance to face Ilunga Makabu, Alvarez hasn’t announced his next move. He is reportedly eyeing to move down to 160 lbs and face Jermall Charlo. Besides, the 168 lbs division can also urge him to defend his unified belts over there.

His trainer Eddy Reynoso has denied all the rumors surrounding Canelo Alvarez’s next fight. They are yet to operate with a promoter and seem to plan something comprehensive in 2022. That said, Alvarez can appear three more times, again this year.
