Gervonta Davis never had a shortage of potential opponents! So, he could choose from a stable of fighters across various promotions as his next opponent. And he had shown interest in fighting Conor Benn after the Brit’s last win. However, the fight fell apart before the negotiations could begin properly. At least that’s what Eddie Hearn, Benn’s promoter, claimed.

While appearing in an interview with Fight Hype, Hearn stated, “I’ve already said it was eight figures, but with pay-per-view bonuses, gate upside, [Davis] could’ve made $25 million…But he didn’t really want to entertain the conversations.” However,  today on social media, ‘Tank’ Davis suggested all that were lies by sharing a screen grab of Hearn’s offer!

Turning to X (formerly Twitter), Davis wrote in a now-deleted tweet, “25 mil where?” Meanwhile, in the screenshot of Hearn’s message to Davis’ manager, things were a little different than what Hearn claimed in the interview! Hearn wrote, “Gervonta asked me to contact you regarding our offer to fight Conor Benn. We would like to talk further regarding this fight, and our plan would be to stage this fight in May [in] the USA.”

Hearn further added, “We would offer $10,000,000 plus an upside on the gate and PPV that I would like to discuss further with you.” This, of course, sort of contradicts what Hearn said during the interview with Fight Hype.

However, chances are there is a bit of miscommunication and misunderstanding involved. In a tweet following Davis’ exposé of Hearn, Conor Benn highlighted the misunderstanding.

Conor Benn comes to the rescue of Eddie Hearn

Mere fourteen minutes after Davis’ tweet, Benn took to the Twitterverse claiming Davis did not understand what “upside” meant. He wrote, “Clearly, gervumpalumpa doesn’t know what upside means.” Meanwhile, he also took a dig at Davis by writing, “Stick to fighting women.” It’s worth mentioning that in December 2022, Davis was arrested and jailed in Broward County, Florida.

He was charged with battery causing bodily harm to his girlfriend, Vanessa Posso, the mother of his second daughter. However, Posso released a statement soon afterward, claiming she made an unnecessary call to law enforcement and wanted to put an end to the situation. Nevertheless, getting back to Benn’s tweet, he made it clear that Hearn offered a $10 million guarantee, and the rest, $15 million, would come from the gate, PPV, and other sources.

It turns out – Eddie Hearn never really lied about his offer! Instead, it was a misunderstanding on Davis’ part that led him to campaign an exposé on Hearn on social media. Do you think Hearn tried to pull a quick one on Gervonta Davis? Let us know in the comments below!

One Take at a Time
The first time boxing captured my attention, it was because of a line I heard in the film 'Rocky Balboa', a film surrounding boxing. The line went like this, "But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
