Gervonta Davis has established himself as a household name in boxing. The Baltimore-born boxer is known for his explosive performances inside the ring. He is one of the best prospects in the lightweight division currently. As ferocious as he is inside the ring, Davis is a calm and respectful personality outside. He will face Ryan Garcia in one of the most anticipated lightweight bouts. Davis didn’t come from riches. He came from a rough neighborhood and worked hard to make a name for himself in the sport.

Recently, post his press conference ahead of his fight with Garcia, Davis shared an emotional message on his Twitter. He remembered the people he had started with but were not around anymore to see him write history.

Gervonta Davis epitomizes how hard work and sheer dedication can reward you. His life story is no less than a Hollywood movie.  He comes from a broken family; his father was incarcerated, and his mother was a frequent drug abuser. He is the youngest of three brothers.

Davis tweeted and remembered his friends who lost their lives while he was growing up and training to become a professional boxer. The 28-year-old also wrote that he knows that the people who are no more around him are proud of how far he has come and how much he has achieved.

In an interview a few years back, Davis discussed the hardships he faced in his initial training years and how everyone around him and the people he was looking up to at the time were getting killed in the street.

All that violence just motivated the Baltimore hard-hitter to train hard and give it all to make it as a boxer.

Davis deserves a lot of praise for where he has come from and what he has achieved through his dedication. However, recently, he experienced backlash from his fans for being late at his press conference for the fight against Ryan Garcia.

The unfavorable childhood of Davis

Gervonta Davis faced a lot of hardships when he was a child. He and his brothers were taken from their mother when Davis was just 5, and they lived in foster homes for three years before their grandmother took them in. All the misfortune and affliction just fueled Davis’s passion for success. He knew not to get involved with the wrong neighborhood; he had to stay in the gym and train hard. Looking at Davis’s life story, it can be said that harsh circumstances shape strong men.
