Deontay Wilder has made an abrupt entry into the heavyweight title ride, putting a damper on the unification fight talks between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. After losing his WBC crown to ‘The Gypsy King’ in February 2020, Wilder was in line for a trilogy fight.

Hence he has returned, demanding his shot at Tyson Fury. While Fury’s team could have paid off Wilder to step aside, it didn’t seem to be an option.

The former WBC champion’s new coach Malik Scott has revealed that Wilder never wanted to accept step-aside money. Instead, he appears ready to fight, and locking horns with Tyson Fury was the only viable option for him.

“Wilder declined and had no interest in step-aside money. Y’all dealing with a whole different type motherf***er over here. He want the blood, not that step-aside money. ‘Retribution is upon us’,” said Scott in an interview. (H/T:- Michael Benson)

‘The Bronze Bomber’ appears to have undergone some serious changes since suffering his maiden career loss to Fury. Firstly, he accused his head trainer Mark Breland of being a double agent and parted ways with him. It left the ex-champion without a coach for a brief period.

But Deontay Wilder has now joined hands with Malik Scott and has already begun preparations for a big return. The American knockout specialist has posted several clips of his sparring and looks in shape. Wilder has gone straight towards Tyson Fury and the WBC heavyweight gold.

Following two intense scraps, a third collision is clearly relevant on the table. However, putting it over the undisputed unified title fight might dishearten a legion of fans. Meanwhile, Top Rank Chief and Tyson Fury’s promoter Bob Arum has expressed interest in staging Wilder vs Fury 3 first.

The 89-year-old veteran connected with ESPN and didn’t seem to accept paying Wilder off. Hence, he claimed to stage the trilogy fight at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on July 24th. That said Arum has also vowed to settle the unification bout with Anthony Joshua by December.
