“Hope is Not a Plan”: Fans Call Out Unconfident Ryan Garcia Ahead of Gervonta Davis Fight

Lightweight phenom, Ryan Garcia, is all set to finally face three-division world champion, Gervonta Davis, for a sensational April 2023 showdown. Their pugilistic prowess and the very fact that they are the biggest names in the lightweight division have further hyped up the fight for boxing fans. The duo recently had a press conference and finally officiated their fight. At the event, Garcia made it a point to open up about his mindset and disclosed his plans ahead of the fight.

Garcia and Davis recently kicked off their official press tour in New York. And came face-to-face, in an event that marked the beginning of a legacy involving two of the biggest names in the lightweight division. Garcia had an interview with Premier Boxing Champions ahead of the presser. During the interview, he said, “I’m going to try and deflect as many shots as I can. And I’m going to try and pick my spots. And then later on, I’ll start applying smart pressure and start banging away and hopefully land a big shot.”

Davis and Garcia will face each other at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, on April 22, 2023. Moreover, Garcia also posted a series of training photos in anticipation of the fight.

Ryan Garcia sends fans into a frenzy

Boxing fans, especially ‘Tank’ aficionados, wasted no time in pouncing on Garcia for his statements. In fact, when the statement was posted on Instagram, a lot of them took to social media to share their thoughts about the same.

Garcia’s choice of words confused Nate Ponte. He said, “‘As I can’ and ‘hopefully’ just shows how much he knows he losing.”

Similarly, Chris Tse mentioned, “The “Try” and “Hopefully” in his statement makes him look not as confident.”

And, Ryan Dickie added, “Hope is not a plan.”

Meanwhile, a few fans had a bit of hope for Garcia. Triumph33 said, “I think he’s gonna do good early but get stopped late.”

In the same vein, Mannie Sarmiento stated, “Let’s gooo!!!”

There is no denying that both icons have their share of supporters. However, with the skillset that both fighters possess, only fight night can determine the real victor.
