Mike Tyson Names the Best Division in Boxing, Calls It a “Mother***er”

Mike Tyson is one of the biggest attractions in boxing. The former world champion proved this with his comeback back in November. Despite being 54 and fighting in an exhibition bout, ‘Iron Mike attracted record numbers.

The biggest attractions in the sport, like Tyson, have often come from the heavyweight division. However, the former heavyweight world champion has now revealed the most exciting division in the sport.

The 50-6 boxer spoke to former lightweight champion Mikey Garcia on an episode of ‘Hotboxin with Mike Tyson.’ When talking about exciting divisions, Tyson said, “But that lightweight division is a motherf***er too. Since the beginning of time, the lightweight division has been a motherf***er. The lightweights, middleweights, and heavyweights. That’s how it started out. Those are the three divisions.”

Thus, these comments from Tyson showed his surprising opinion on the lighter weight class. And although he used a unique analogy, he made no secret of his pick. And while ‘Iron Mike’ also pointed out two other divisions, he then confirmed, “It’s just the best division. I think lightweight is the best division.”

Is Mike Tyson right about the lightweight division?

The comments from Tyson showed that even though he fought in the heavyweight division, he prefers the lightweight division. However, there will be many who disagree with Tyson, given the subjective nature of the topic. But does Mike Tyson have a point?

In the current situation, the 135-pound division is easily one of the most exciting. Not only are there several superstar fighters competing for the titles, but they all have outspoken personalities and are not afraid to get into verbal battles with each other.

Historically, the lightweight division has given us some of the most technically gifted fighters like Roberto Duran, Floyd Mayweather, Julio Cesar Chavez, and many more. Therefore, it is no surprise to hear what ‘Iron Mike’ said.

In addition, every other division in the sport has had a period where one champion has dominated for a long time. However, the lightweight division is extremely competitive and very difficult to dominate.
