While the United Kingdom has banned all the boxing bouts for the month of January to curb the spread of COVID-19, February will stage an electrifying 130 lbs title fight between Carl Frampton and Jamel Herring. The pair will collide on February 27 at the UK, with Herring’s WBO junior lightweight title at stake.
Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions will host the event, but the exact location is yet not revealed. However, Athletic has confirmed the news, citing another nail-biting boxing clash this year, after Ryan Garcia vs Luke Campbell on January 2.
If not for the COVID-19 tussles, Frampton vs Herring could have been staged this month. However, the entire UK is currently experiencing a new Coronavirus strain and to retain its outbreak, boxing bouts and public gatherings have been canceled. British Boxing Board of Council has passed the order. So, fans will have to wait longer to see the fights happen in Great Britain.
Frampton, 28-2, and Herring, 22-2, are two of the elite junior lightweight boxers. Although 135 lbs division garners more attention for its roster full of superstars, Frampton and Herring are liable to keep the spotlight over the 130 lbs unit. Before they meet each other inside the ring, here’s some preview of their fight.
Both Herring and Frampton can stop their opponents at any point of their fights. Frampton has 16 KOs under his name, while Herring has 10.
But Herring is current on a six-fight winning streak and Frampton is on a 2-fight winning streak. It further intensifies the tale since Herring is a southpaw and Frampton is orthodox. Also, both have tasted the world championship wins in their career and are regarded as elite pugilists.
Frampton vs Herring appears to be a close contest with both the boxers having a fair share of chances to win the fight. We can expect a blockbuster event through the junior lightweight title clash when boxing resumes in the UK.
Apart from that, Matchroom has also finalized an event on the same date, headlined by Joseph Parker ad Junior Fa. Thus, we can picture a heated February for the boxing fans all over the world.
2021 surely seems like a great year for boxing.
