Terence Crawford initially didn’t want to fight Canelo Alvarez because of their significant weight differences. In his last fight against Errol Spence Jr., Crawford weighed 146¾ lbs. In contrast, Alvarez was 20 lbs heavier in his match against John Ryder. This made Crawford think of fighting Jermell Charlo instead. But recently on The Breakfast Club, Crawford said he’d fight Alvarez at a catchweight, suggesting 158-60 lbs.

He said, “We can do something at a catchweight,” Crawford said about his fight with Alvarez. He further added, saying, “Probably, 160 or something, 158. Yeah, 158, 160, that would be cool.”

Further, when Bud was asked cheekily who would win a Canelo vs Crawford fight, Crawford responded in a jiffy saying “Crawford, come on man.”

When asked about any official happenings regarding the match, Bud told that nothing official is brewing. Bud said, “No, they’re already focused on what they’ve got in front of them and that’s Jermell Charlo…I would never interfere with what they’ve got going on right now.”

Additionally, as Crawford is turning 36 next month, he has also made plans for his retirement in the near future.

What are Bud’s views on retirement?

Crawford believes that he can fight until 45 but aims to retire. He wants to leave boxing on his terms, not due to injury. Moreover, he’s seen older fighters struggle with health issues. He desires to enjoy life post-retirement, play with his kids, and share his story. Although Crawford dearly values his boxing career, he plans to retire while on top.

Bud said, “I probably can fight until like 45, but all I said I want[ed] to retire at 33. I’ve always said I want to retire from boxing; I never wanted boxing to retire me. I’ve looked at the older fighters and felt bad. Many of them made a lot of money and were great, but now, when they walk into a room, no one notices them. They speak with a slur and struggle to hold a conversation because of the damage from boxing. I never want to be like that. I want to enjoy the rewards of my hard work, play basketball with my kids, and tell my story without someone else doing it for me because I can’t speak. Boxing has been good to me, and I plan to retire on top.”

Initially, weight differences were a concern, but Crawford’s catchweight proposal brings hope. As fans, we can only await the potential showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Crawford. However,  Crawford’s thoughts of retiring on his terms, make the future unclear. Furthermore, as fans, we can only hope for bouts that will celebrate his incredible legacy.
