The WBC, Ring Magazine, and the Lineal Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury, regards Deontay Wilder as the biggest challenge in the Heavyweight Division. Even though Fury demolished Wilder in their rematch, the thought of taking the former WBC champion lightly does not cross his mind ahead of their trilogy fight.

On being asked how important it was for him to clean out the division in a recent interview, Tyson said, “To be honest, no matter who you beat, what you beat, there’s always going to be somebody else coming up. Look how many title defenses Wladimir Klitschko had, but there’s always people coming behind you.

“The only thing I’m concentrating on right now is fighting Deontay Wilder for a third time and being victorious in that fight because I never look past any opponent, and especially not one as dangerous as Deontay Wilder.

“He needs the utmost respect because he is a great champion and he is one of the most fierce punchers in boxing. So the answer to the question is yes, I must fight Deontay Wilder again, I must fight (Anthony) Joshua. I must fight them all. You know, as long as I want to continue, as long as I’m healthy and I’m still alive, then I’ll keep boxing and clean up.”

The history between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder

Fury (31-0-1, 21 KOs), had his first bout with Wilder in December 2018, in which he dominated most of the fight. Although he was knocked down with two hard punches in the twelfth round, he got back up in time and finished the fight. The bout, however, ended in a controversial split decision draw.

The rematch took place in February 2020, a fight Fury won by a seventh-round TKO. Fury applied pressure on the former champion from the get-go and dropped him twice in the bout. The knockdowns happened in the third and fifth rounds before Wilder’s corner had seen enough and threw in the towel in the seventh, ending the bout.

After losing the bout, Wilder activated his rematch clause. The trilogy bout is expected to take place by the end of this year. However, both parties are yet to make any official announcement regarding the signing of the contract. But it is expected to be done soon.
