This is a result of Lopez saying he would like to move up to the 140-pound division rather than staying in the lightweight division. However, ‘Loma’ was having none of it and made no secret of his opinion.

Speaking to SNOWQUEENLA on YouTube, Lomachenko said, “These guys will eat him alive. Lopez at 140? He won’t pass through the 140-pound champions. He won’t. At least for right now, in the next year at least, that’s for sure.”

The Ukrainian added, “And to be honest, I don’t think he would want to fight Ramirez. Because he understands that at 135, he has better opportunities. I’m not sure why he would want to move up”

Why does Vasyl Lomachenko think Teofimo Lopez will not succeed?

The difference in weight limits is a tricky subject in boxing. The slightest change in weight could disrupt all tactics and strategies. Furthermore, there are arguments that the skills that serve well in one weight class may not work at a higher weight.

Lopez is a fairly big lightweight and cuts a lot of weight to fight at 135. However, will he be as effective at 140 is the question? When you look at Jose Carlos Ramirez, you see that he has different attributes when compared to ‘The Takeover’.

So, although it is possible, it is a very difficult achievement. Especially fighting a champion in a higher division. Furthermore, as Lomachenko said, Lopez has unfinished business in the lightweight division. Therefore, fans will agree with the Ukrainian and hope that the 23-year-old stays at 135 for now.
