VIDEO: Oscar Valdez Receives a Grand Welcome in His Hometown Following Win Over Miguel Berchelt

Oscar Valdez gave his career-best performance against Miguel Berchelt last Saturday when the Mexican pair fought for the WBC super-featherweight title. Valdez dethroned ‘Alacran’ in style and handed the latter his second professional loss.
Courtesy of his sensational win, the 30-year-old cemented his place at the top of the 130-pound division and became an overnight sensation. Furthermore, the undefeated boxer received a heroic welcome when he returned to his hometown in Mexico with the WBC gold.
The champion booked a fire-truck and stood at the front. The people present on the streets applauded him, and he even gave a signed shoe to a fan. He seemed no less than a superstar who greeted his fans with the same passion.

With a win over Berchelt, Valdez improved to 29-0, with a staggering 23 wins via T/KO. The 30-year-old dictated every single second of the fight and knocked his opponent down multiple times. Later in round 10, Valdez landed a cracking left hook to leave Berchelt unconscious on the canvas.

His punch impact was so bad that Berchelt had to be rushed to a nearby hospital for further scans and treatments.
Valdez will look to securing a few title defenses in his new weight class to prove that his insane finish over Berchelt was not a one-off. Moreover, given his status as a double champion, he will have even more pressure on him in his next outing.

What’s next for Oscar Valdez?
Valdez is now open to fighting any and everyone in this division. However, a fight that’ll intrigue his fans is a 12-round war with the undefeated super-featherweight prospect, Shakur Stevenson.
Right after the 30-year-old’s title, ‘Fearless’ took it to his Twitter handle to call out the champion. He wrote, “Congrats champ @oscarvaldez56 I respect what you did tonight surprised me.. It’s only 1 FIGHT to make now!”

The prospect of a battle between these two resilient undefeated boxers is extremely captivating, as it has the audacity to cater to a vast audience. Furthermore, it’ll be interesting to see if Valdez can actually stop the young-gun Stevenson if they ever collide.
