Oscar Valdez gave his career-best performance against Miguel Berchelt last Saturday when the Mexican pair fought for the WBC super-featherweight title. Valdez dethroned ‘Alacran’ in style and handed the latter his second professional loss.

Courtesy of his sensational win, the 30-year-old cemented his place at the top of the 130-pound division and became an overnight sensation. Furthermore, the undefeated boxer received a heroic welcome when he returned to his hometown in Mexico with the WBC gold.

The champion booked a fire-truck and stood at the front. The people present on the streets applauded him, and he even gave a signed shoe to a fan. He seemed no less than a superstar who greeted his fans with the same passion.

With a win over Berchelt, Valdez improved to 29-0, with a staggering 23 wins via T/KO. The 30-year-old dictated every single second of the fight and knocked his opponent down multiple times. Later in round 10, Valdez landed a cracking left hook to leave Berchelt unconscious on the canvas.

His punch impact was so bad that Berchelt had to be rushed to a nearby hospital for further scans and treatments.

Valdez will look to securing a few title defenses in his new weight class to prove that his insane finish over Berchelt was not a one-off. Moreover, given his status as a double champion, he will have even more pressure on him in his next outing.
