In this video that has now gone viral on Twitter and other social media, the two corners can be seen going back and forth at each other. At one point, Teofimo Lopez said “sign the contract” and Haney screamed “what contract” right back at him.
This scuffle between the two lightweight champions came to an abrupt end with Eddie Hearn intervening and Teofimo shaking Haney’s father’s hand.
Is this just all talk or can this fight really happen?
Devin Haney vs Teofimo Lopez: Will it happen?
As of now, it seems the Haney-Lopez rivalry, and the bad blood narrative has already been established. With their latest scuffle after the Garcia vs Martin main event, this matchup has inched in one step closer to becoming a reality.
Teofimo Lopez holds belts from all major governing bodies, though he holds the WBC ‘franchise’ belt and Haney retains the regular champion status. The two are eager to fight each other to finally put an end to the debate around which belt holds more value – the WBC regular or the ‘franchise’ belt.

‘The Dream’ is currently undefeated with 26 wins on his record. He is coming off a close win against Jorge Linares in May. After his last fight, he called out the current lightweight king.
“If Teofimo Lopez is next, let’s do it. If Teofimo wants to get it next, let’s do it for all the belts — the real undisputed,” said Devin Haney in May.
And the unified champ (16-0-0) did not wave off this call-out. According to Lopez, he set up a meeting between Haney’s team and Bob Arum. However, it seems Devin Haney pulled a 180 ten days after his call-out. Lopez said in an interview that Haney’s team never really showed up for that meeting.

“Let’s make the fight happen. You’re saying this and you’re saying that. Earlier this week, you were supposed to meet with my promoter Bob Arum and y’all pulled out, so we can negotiate this fight,” said Teofimo Lopez in June.
Is this a fight that will get fans excited? Absolutely.
However, is this a fight that will ever move beyond negotiations and all of the behind-the-scenes drama? Only time will tell.
