Abraham Lopez has taken to fighting outside the boxing ring. And his toughest opponent at present is the widespread pandemic, the Coronavirus.
Yes, outside the boxing ring, Lopez is a respiratory therapist. He works at the Olympia Medical Center, Los Angeles. He is currently helping his organization battle the disease at the frontline. Just like in his boxing career, he is not backing down in the face of adversity. Instead, he is battling the disease head-on, and giving all that he can for the ultimate victory.
However, he did emphasize the risks that the job brings with it. As per Ryan Songalia from Ringtv, Lopez said,
“I’m very concerned because I’m putting my health on the line. We sometimes don’t have the resources to protect ourselves. It’s a scary situation because you see on TV, we’re in need of masks, we’re in need of gowns, we’re in need of gloves, we’re in need of antibacterial hand sanitizer.”
Relating the dangers of the situation to his life at home, he said,
“It’s a scary situation because I come home, I have a fianceé, I have a family and I don’t want to get them sick.”
Truly, those at the frontline today, battling the disease, are performing perhaps the most herculean task ever. This sort of a pandemic than not been witnessed in at least a century, and the way that medical practitioners are putting themselves out there in order to try and curb the storm that the pandemic brought along with it is extremely brave.
Carrying about the disease, Abraham said,
“Never in a million years did I think that something like this would happen. But it’s very fulfilling to be able to help people in their time of need.”
While the disease continues to grow, scientists have not yet found a cure. Experts estimate that a cure could take more than a year to surface. However, hospitals are managing with whatever existing alternative that have even the slightest effect on a patient’s health. Speaking about the same, Lopez said,
“It’s a scary situation right now, we’re trying to hit it with all types of antivirals and meds and it’s barely doing any work. We haven’t seen anything like this. We were being blindsided by it.”
Fortunately, things are much more in control now. Yet, the coronavirus is claiming more and more victims by the day. The anticipated damage that can be caused by the coronavirus is in unimaginable figures.
When do you think the situation will finally be under control?
