Home/Boxing

After months of anticipation and a boatload of trash talk, two undefeated beasts, Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia, met in the boxing ring. One cemented his status as the best boxer in the division, and the other had to go back to the drawing board. However, the loss wasn’t the only setback for Ryan Garcia after the fight. He got into an ugly feud with his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya. But what caused this crack in their relationship?

Everything started with an X (Twitter) feud between the boxer and De La Hoya. The ‘Golden Boy’ tried pushing a bout between Garcia and Manny Pacquiao. Garcia quickly responded to the tweet, saying that the fight wouldn’t happen. Everything would have been fine if the disagreement stopped there, but it did not. The whole situation spiraled out of control, and both parties ended up suing each other. However, while appearing in a recent interview, the ‘Golden Boy’ hinted at a repaired relationship.

While appearing in an interview with Fight Hub TV, De La Hoya claimed he can’t comment on the lawsuit. But he assured everyone that things would turn out fine between him and Ryan. He then explained the situation between them. “Look, boxers and promoters, it’s like family. You know. In family, you always have arguments, but you are still family, you know.”

De La Hoya added that it was a minor hiccup and that things would go back to normal soon enough. Later in the interview, he said that he wants what’s best for Garcia. “Me as a promoter, all I want is the best for Ryan. He’s coming off making 30 million dollars, I mean Jesus,” De La Hoya told the reporter. With that emotional statement from De La Hoya, things might actually get resolved between the two. However, what is their lawsuit all about?

Garcia vs. Golden Boy Promotions Lawsuit

Garcia is not the first fighter to sue Golden Boy Promotions. Before Garcia, Canelo had sued the promoters for $280 million for a breach of contract. In Garcia’s case, the lawsuit claimed that Golden Boy Promotions had breached their contract with him. He claimed there were violations of California and Federal law that invalidate the contract. However, the promotion company soon counter-sued Ryan.

It’s important to note that mediation has not started yet. Until then, the promotion will work towards getting Garcia back in the ring. Regardless of the things said by either party, Oscar’s statement suggests their relationship might improve in the coming days. Also, the boxing world can’t wait to see Ryan’s comeback, as hinted by De la Hoya. What do you think about Oscar’s statement? Will Ryan and Oscar go their separate ways or come together in the end?
