The soccer team Leeds United has recently made headlines, but not for the right reasons. Recently, a video showing the team’s players walking away from the hotel while oblivious to their fans went viral on social media. This behavior by players was considered abhorrent, and soon after, soccer fans from all around the world began criticizing the club for its actions. Olympic boxing medalist Tony Jeffries was one of them and tweeted his thoughts on the subject.

What Tony Jeffries said on Twitter was not just about Leeds United, but it was also about how fame can affect people. He pointed out that fame can go to people’s heads, and they may forget the ones who made them famous in the first place. Jeffries further elaborated on this by drawing parallels with his own sport of boxing. He said that he had seen similar behavior among boxers where they tend to forget their roots after achieving fame.

Olympic medalist Tony Jeffries speaks Out against Leeds United players’ behavior

Tony Jeffries took to Twitter to share his thoughts on a video posted by SPORTbible, which showed Leeds United’s players ignoring their fans as they left the hotel. The caption of the video reads, “Leeds United’s players ignoring their fans as they left the hotel this morning. A club that’s troubled on and off the pitch.”

The Olympic medalist and former professional boxer responded with a scathing comment. He wrote, “It’s mad how 5 mins of fame goes to people’s heads. (I’ve seen this in boxing too) In a few years hardly anyone will know who they are. Even now outside of football no 1 will know who they are. And this is how they make the most of their popularity. A little fist pump 🤜🏼 to that little boy would have gone a long way.”

Jeffries pointed out the players’  lack of consideration toward their fans and their inflated sense of fame. He also emphasized that their popularity is limited to the football world, and even within that sphere, their fame is fleeting. Jeffries’ comment serves as a reminder that sports stars and celebrities should remain grounded and humble.
