The new era for Call of Duty launched on a not so lucky day. Last Friday the 13th saw Activision launch Call of Duty Blacks Ops Cold War worldwide. However, if anything, with Black Ops Cold War, Treyarch has debunked ‘the unluckiest day’ legend by overseeing an extremely successful launch.
Cold War breaks Call of Duty record
Black Ops Cold War set a record for digital copy sales on Friday. According to Activision Blizzard, the game has sold the largest number of digital copies on launch day in the franchise’s history. Despite all the complaints about skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) and the maps not giving a good enough vibe, fans of the franchise did not shy away from pre-ordering it.

Activision Blizzard released a statement about their launch day sales.
“Friday’s release of Black Ops Cold War set a new record as the highest first day digital sales worldwide in franchise history. Thank you to Call of Duty players everywhere,” confirmed Anna Malmhake in an official statement.
In a way, this exerts more pressure on Treyarch to live up to the expectations of the players. They had to tackle multiple complaints on launch day itself. Players reported glitches and exploits ruining their first time experience of playing the game. Unfortunately, there were a few who could not even boot it up properly. After so many months of anticipation, players were greeted with error messages.
Why do I keep getting error messages and game freezing or closing on Cold War???

This was mainly because of overcrowding on the servers. In addition, there were some installation glitches too. Nonetheless, it is a positive start for Activision. Many had predicted that Cold War would be the best-selling game in the States in 2020, and it is certainly on the right on track.

Black-Ops series generally do better in sales, and Cold War is upholding that tradition with ease. The publishing house has promised to keep up the good work and reward fans with lots of free content very soon.
“Launch is just the start This new title is releasing into the largest and most engaged Call of Duty community ever. We look forward to delivering an incredible amount of free post launch content, events and support for the entire community as Black Ops Cold War evolves just as we did last year following the release of Modern Warfare.”
The studio provided no cold, hard stats to support these claims. We do not know which title Cold War has overtaken in this record endeavor.
