The latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops Cold War, dropped a little over a week ago along with the much-awaited consoles of the year. Black Ops Cold War has been an absolute hit as far as the game’s campaign is concerned, and the multiplayer has been quite good apart from a few glitches and features. However, the release of this title does raise the question of how Activision is planning to go about the updates in CoD Modern Warfare and Warzone.
Some had raised the question of whether Black Ops Cold War is a pointless addition to the franchise for this year, since both Modern Warfare and Warzone are still in their prime. Conversely, we can look at it this way: Does Activision have the need to update Modern Warfare and WZ any further, now that Black Ops Cold War is around?
Now, this is something that has been bugging the fan community for a while.
Currently, Modern Warfare and Warzone are in their 6th season. Fans have been asking devs whether they will release the 7th season for MW. But devs have almost always replied that it does not seem likely.
However, recently in a comment thread on Twitter, Reed Shingledecker, the lead multiplayer VFX artist for Infinity Ward, talked very briefly about the 7th season of Modern Warfare. A fan asked Reed whether there will be another season in MW, and he replied by saying that there is definitely more content for the game on the way.
Now, we would advise you not to get your hopes high right now since the “more content” here might not be a new season but simply the addition of new content. Because let us face it, it is pretty obvious that Activision will focus more on the upcoming seasons of Black Ops Cold War. Moreover, Activision had already said that the 6th season would be the last one but devs will still be dropping more content for the game.
The arrival of Season 7 in Call of Duty Modern Warfare still looks a bit unlikely. However, we believe we can rest assured knowing that we will still be able to enjoy MW and Warzone as much as we do now, with new content now and then.
