John Gotti III reflects on his brawl with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
In a recent interview on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Gotti revealed that he was sucker punched by an unidentified individual. However, Gotti downplayed the incident, stating that it wasn’t too severe. He also claimed that his head coach, Derek Panzer, played a vital role in defusing the situation, while Mayweather’s guards rushed to restore order.
“When I was getting pulled out of the ring, I got sucker punched by somebody I couldn’t see, but it wasn’t too bad, you know. Cooler heads prevailed in my head coach Derek Panzer. He got right in the middle of it, and Floyd’s security guards rushed the ring. You know, they were just trying to defuse it.” he said
Gotti also acknowledged that it was the presence of unrelated individuals who entered the ring, instigating further trouble. Despite this, he was glad that the situation did not escalate further than it already did.
“They were the antagonizers; they were trying to get to me. They were trying to make the fight worse than what it was. That’s why he said it was dangerous, you know. And all the way walking back to the locker room, there were brawls throughout the arena. You know, guys were getting hit with bottles, guys were getting knocked out. It was crazy. It could have gotten very bad.” he added
Although this was an ugly sight for a fan of the sport to see a brawl ensuing just after a match, Gotti felt that he did nothing wrong. Moreover, he defended himself and took a strong stance against the former champion.
