Forgotten Video Shows Then-‘Iron’ Mike Tyson’s Lesser-Known Side, Spending Time With Disabled People

Mike Tyson has a tendency to project a powerful, unrelenting, and ferocious image of himself among fans. However, what people often forget is that he also has a softer side to him, which came out after his retirement. Yet, a blast from the past shows what most have previously forgotten about the former ‘Baddest Man on the Planet.’

In a recent twist, an X handle, going by the name Historic Vids, shared a clip of Mike Tyson that many have yet to witness. The footage showed Mike engaging with and uplifting the less fortunate, disabled members of the community. The sweet and charming clip of Mike shows his popularity even among the less fortunate.

A fun day out with Mike Tyson

The clip begins with the narrator saying, “All great champions have their fans, but very few have been cheered and loved like this one.” As for the clip itself, Mike can be seen joyfully playing basketball with the residents of the establishment Mike was visiting. Not just that, he even indulges in his first love, boxing, pretending to be knocked out by one of the disabled people.

Later in the video, Mike can even be seen hugging and embracing the people like he had known them all for decades. Joy dripping from their smiles and bliss exuding from their laughs – the clip is anchored on the internet like Mike’s legacy in the sport. What’s more, if his softer side or his generosity isn’t clear enough from the clip, his actions after an exhibition bout definitely bear testament.

Tyson’s tryst with grassroots charity

Back in November 2020, Mike Tyson took on the former cruiserweight world champion Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition bout. While the fight ended in a split decision draw, and the fight itself was far from an actual brawl, Mike’s decision to donate his winnings to charity garnered him respect from fans and pundits alike. 

While appearing in an interview from 26 November 2020 with ESPN MMA, ‘Iron’ Mike detailed his intentions to donate the prize money. “I haven’t got no 10 million dollars either. It’s all for grassroots charity. Some for my friends in Brooklyn, just all around, the ones that we are associated with,” Mike told Ariel Helwani.
