The landscape of boxing is evolving with time but Mike Tyson is glad to see it take place. In the last couple of years, influencer boxers, such as Jake Paul have made a name for themselves in professional boxing. This phenomenon has not only benefited, ‘The Problem Child,’ but also the sport. The 26-year-old brings in a fresh audience to the sport that makes it more mainstream.

‘Iron Mike,’ acknowledges the same and credits the YouTuber turned boxer while taking shots at boxers like Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. So without further ado, let’s dive in on how Tyson related Crawford and Spence Jr. to the success of Paul.

Mike Tyson compares Jake Paul with Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr.

Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. fought one another in their anticipated showdown in July. Their bout was a massive success financially. It is reported that their gate revenue is upwards of  $21 Million which is nothing to scoff at. However, Tyson uses them as an example to advance that Paul is more popular and brings in more eyes.

When asked about what he thinks of the sport of boxing today at the ‘The Jim Rome Show,’ he stated, “Absolutely. Especially since the MMA guy started getting involved. They’re bringing different clientele to the boxing arena and boxing so desperately needs this.” 

Thereafter, he compared Paul with two of of best pound-for-pound fighters out there: Crawford and Spence Jr. He added, “What’s the name again? Crawford and Spence right? Jake Paul outsells those guys. He’s not world-class. Well, he’s now, but he didn’t start as a world-class boxer.”

It is safe to say that Paul has left Tyson impressed. However, this has not been the only instance the former heavyweight champion of the world praised him. In the past, he expressed interest in Paul facing Crawford in the near future.

Mike Tyson on Jake Paul vs. Terence Crawford

Crawford made history on July 29 by becoming the first-ever boxer to be crowned as an undisputed champion in two weight divisions. Just a week later, Paul fought and defeated MMA veteran, Nate Diaz.

After his victory, Paul made an appearance on the ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson,’ podcast and, ‘Iron Mike,’ proposed a fight between him and Crawford. He stated, “Terence Crawford oh s**t! Jake Paul and Terence Crawford!” To which, Paul responded and stated, “You’re gonna promote it?”
