Mike Tyson was untouchable during his prime. The ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ built a reputation for being someone whose presence was enough to send shivers down the opponent’s spine. His domination in the heavyweight division has been like no other of his time. Tyson was known for his ferocity and the ability to end the fight in the first round itself. But the whole world couldn’t believe their eyes when Tyson was lying on the canvas after Buster Douglas managed to pull out one of the biggest upsets in the sport’s history. The fight between Buster Douglas and Mike Tyson still exists to be one of the most controversial fights in boxing.
It’s been more than 20 years since Douglas became the undisputed heavyweight champion after beating one of the most feared boxers of the era. And even though it was clear that Tyson got knocked out, many fans have their own conspiracy theories about the first-ever defeat of Mike Tyson’s professional career. A resurfaced clip of the infamous fight has sparked a debate among boxing fans.

“Tyson actually won”: Fans give their two cents on Tyson vs Douglas fight
A user named Anita Skorgan took to Facebook to share a clip from the fight between Douglas and Tyson. The fight caught the attention of the fans due to a supposedly long count by the referee. During the fight, Tyson was able to knock down Douglas, and as per the official count ‘Buster’ was able to stand back up again. But, some in the boxing community would say that Douglas took more than 10 seconds to get up. Earlier, Tyson had also confessed the reason he lost the fight to Douglas.
Further in the fight, Douglas knocked down Tyson and there was again confusion about the standing eight count and the fight ended up being a topic of debate for a long time in the sport.
However, Douglas was able to become the champion after knocking out the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet.’ The fans have come forward to show their support for Iron Mike years after his loss.
@ClarenceEvans believes that Tyson’s loss to Douglas was a result of the type of company he had around him. He commented, “Had the wrong people in his corner, Never should have been there!!!”
@DannySzczepaniak talked about one of the biggest controversies from the fight. He commented, “Buster took a 12 count. This fight was rigged, but not to take anything from buster, after he took a beating he came back and terrorized Mike in that fight.”
@RoyAndaverde believes Tyson just gave the fight away. He commented, “Tyson threw that fight. He wasn’t fighting the same. When I saw it live.”
