Only some boxers in the Heavyweight division are as lucky as Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder, or other big-money fighters. Some have to scrounge up every last penny to keep their training camp and other expenses going. Such is the case for Martin Bakole, who recently achieved the title of WBA’s No.1 contender in the Heavyweight division.

The Congolese Heavyweight took on Carlos Takam in the undercard of Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou fight. After winning the 10-round showdown against Takam, Bakole became the WBA No.1 contender, beating the likes of Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois. However, despite the achievement, the 20-1 boxer has failed to acquire enough cash to fund his dream of becoming a world champion. So, the Scotland native turned to GoFundMe in an effort to accumulate enough funds.

£99,955 to go

Today, the Congolese boxer turned to X (formerly Twitter), sharing a link of his GoFundMe page. “Help me to achieve my dream of becoming world chmp,” wrote Bakole on his GoFundMe page. He further added in the description, “I’m asking to my beloved sisters and brothers to help.” According to the page, his campaign has managed to raise £45 out of the £100,000 goal set by the Heavyweight.

Moreover, Bakole kickstarted the campaign thirteen hours ago, receiving donations of £5 from six people from across the globe. While his funding goals are slowly getting to their destination, the thirty-year-old boxer has primed himself to face Mahmoud Charr for a title fight. However, this isn’t the first time Bakole pursued financial aid.

Prior to his funding request for the Takam fight, the Congolese government had issued 100,000 dollars (92,000 euros) for his fight camp, but even then, the public wasn’t happy. So, that might have been the reason behind his decision to take the GoFundMe approach this time around. Meanwhile, only time can tell if Bakole’s GoFundMe £100,000 goal is fulfilled.
