“Our Government Is Working on Murder Robots”: TV Personality Mindy Robinson Joins Fans in Discussing Possible Threat as Lennox Lewis Shares a Video of Robot Hitting Mitts With Perfection

The only thing that stays constant in the sport of boxing is the skills possessed by the boxers. However, even that’s under threat after Lennox Lewis shared a clip of a robot training online. Think about it – automation is everywhere – what can be done better is being done better by robots. So, what’s stopping these robots from rearing its head in the realm of boxing?

Recently, Lewis turned to Facebook, sharing the clip with a caption that read, “Could the future of boxing actually look like this in a thousand years?” Soon after the clip started circulating, popular TV personality Mindy Robinson found the clip. Sharing the clip with her followers, Mindy wrote, “Teaching robots to fight humans, what could go wrong?” So, when the fans got their hands on the footage, a debate took over the comment section.

It’s worth mentioning that the clip is obviously a CGI rendition and not an actual robot. However, the thought of robots taking over the sport was enough to scare some, as they took to the comment section. 

Mindy Robinson wasn’t done, as she further commented on the post, claiming the Government is working on a murder robot. She wrote, “I know it’s CG…but I’m also pretty sure our government is working on murder robots to use on us somewhere…”

Another user went into detail about why the robot isn’t good news for humanity in general. “Every bit of technology we currently have at our disposal had military applications before it was released to us. The people laughing at this post have no idea what’s about to happen to them,” the user commented.

Someone else thought the robot was like a toy robot popular with children. “Life-size rock em sock em robot,” wrote the user.

The next user claimed the robot was an attempt to play with people’s fears. “They love playing with people’s fear lately,” wrote the user.

One user questioned what could go wrong with the inclusion of robots in the sport. The user wrote, “What could possibly go wrong?”

Despite the alarming post from Mindy Robinson, the clip isn’t the first one of its kind.

Humanoid robot from IHMC Robotics and Boardwalk Robotics

About two weeks ago, a clip of a robot sparring with a person was shared on IHMC Robotics’ YouTube channel, which left viewers awestruck. The robot is the result of the collaboration between IHMC Robotics and Boardwalk Robotics. The clip showcased impressive capabilities that reminded people of a “Rocky” style training montage.

What’s interesting is this one is real – unlike the previous video. In this version of the robot, however, the robot is being controlled by an engineer using VR goggles. Impressively, the robot showcased a high range of motion through 29 of its joints. If not anything else, the robot was one of the most versatile humanoid robots to date.
