During May this year,  Devin Haney defended his undisputed Lightweight title against Vasiliy Lomachenko. The decision, although controversial, was in favor of Haney. Post the bout, Haney hinted at a potential move up in weight class but simultaneously welcomed defending his Lightweight titles at 135lbs. However, there are certain specific matchups that excite that champion at this stage of his career in the Lightweight division. In the post-fight interview, he explicitly took the name of Shakur Stevenson as a potential opponent for his next bout at 135lbs. Stevenson is an undefeated American boxer and he is currently the unified Featherweight world champion. However, he moved up in weight class in April of this year and made his debut in the Lightweight division.

Intriguingly, Stevenson and Haney were training partners back in the nascent stages of their careers. And it may appear that the two combatants may face each other again but for a sanctioned bout.
