During May this year,  Devin Haney defended his undisputed Lightweight title against Vasiliy Lomachenko. The decision, although controversial, was in favor of Haney. Post the bout, Haney hinted at a potential move up in weight class but simultaneously welcomed defending his Lightweight titles at 135lbs. However, there are certain specific matchups that excite that champion at this stage of his career in the Lightweight division. In the post-fight interview, he explicitly took the name of Shakur Stevenson as a potential opponent for his next bout at 135lbs. Stevenson is an undefeated American boxer and he is currently the unified Featherweight world champion. However, he moved up in weight class in April of this year and made his debut in the Lightweight division.

Intriguingly, Stevenson and Haney were training partners back in the nascent stages of their careers. And it may appear that the two combatants may face each other again but for a sanctioned bout. Stevenson is keen on being a dual-weight world champion and fighting Haney is the ideal opportunity. Not to mention, given their history, the bout would be a spectacle to witness. Moreover, in such high-stakes bouts, the off-court negotiations being prolific are ubiquitous. Ahead of the potential matchup, the boxing world speculates on the purse split between the two.

Boxing purses play an integral part for any prizefighter. Usually, the metric to determine the split between the purse is their drawing power and leverage at hand. Here are a few of the intriguing fan reactions reflecting upon the same:

A fan Vegas Sports is of the opinion that Haney should be given the major share. He states, “75/25 like what’s being offered Haney took 22% and 2 fights in a different country for his chance Shakur offers nothing for Haney…Casuals don’t know him , doesn’t bring extra money or views etc So he either wants a undisputed shot like Haney did or he doesn’t”

On the contrary, fan Dame thinks Stevenson should get the bigger share. He states, 60/40 shakur favor he’s bringing in the views”

While, Danny Zelaya thinks it should be equal. He states, “50 50 is fair, 65 35 closer to what I think would get the fight done”

Another fan William gives his proposition. He states, “70/30 even though shakur may be worth a bit more, shakur will whip him anyway, just take whatever haha”

Also,

the A-side, in favor of Stevenson stated, “60/40 Shakur sells more than Haney. Facts only. Go do your own research if you think this is cap.”
