A recent development in the boxing world has the community ganging up against the national governing body for the sport and the Olympics. Not so long ago, USA Boxing introduced a set of guidelines in their handbook, allowing trans women to compete in the women’s category against cisgender women. The update saw criticism from numerous athletes in and out of the sport.

Among some of the most notable names, Ebanie Bridges, Riley Gaines, and others have made their stance against the ruling more than clear. However, adding to the long list of opposers, now Donald Trump’s former lawyer, Jenna Ellis, and boxing promoter Kellie Maloney, who is a member of the transgender community herself, have condemned the organization for the new rules on social media. But what exactly is their contention?

Kellie Maloney calls for resignations

On New Year’s Eve, Kellie Maloney, who went through transition herself, took to Instagram, labeling the decision wrong and dangerous while suggesting the officials at USA Boxing should resign. She also rang alarms about the potential for accidents that could happen inside the ring, claiming it could only be bad for the trans community.

“This is so wrong and dangerous the board of this American Boxing association should all resign. God forbid anything happens in the ring it will give more ammunition to the right-wing media and haters of the Trans community. I hope no trans person take part in this, and if they do I hope the biological female refuses to fight,” wrote Maloney in an Instagram post.

If Maloney’s extensive comment wasn’t enough, Ex-Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis showed up with an opinion of her own. Ellis, who has always been vocal on X, claimed, “USA Boxing wants to get women killed.” What’s more, it’s not just women who are against the new rules.

Brian Davis on the new rules from USA Boxing

Brian Davis, popularly known as True Geordie on YouTube, has spoken extensively about the situation, brutally criticizing it. “I’ve definitely got a problem with people potentially killing people by having a ridiculous unfair advantage on the opponent,” said Geordie. He went on to add that his opposition isn’t about discrimination. Rather, he is worried about the serious nature of the sport.

“This is not fair, and that’s the point, yeah. It’s got nothing to do with discrimination or whatever. This is about sport, and it’s about deadly sports like boxing,” said Geordie. He went on to paint a picture of what could be the result of the new ruling. “So, in theory, Mike Tyson could get the surgery, wait two years, prove his testosterone levels are lower, jump in the ring, and beat the s**t out of all of these women,” exclaimed Geordie.
