Opinions in the sport of boxing are like a ship on the high seas, swaying from one side to the other. The people who were outraged by the split decision win for Tyson Fury are now outraged by WBC’s decision to rank Francis Ngannou in the top 10. It’s worth mentioning that the cross-over event also affected Fury’s position in ESPN’s top 10 rankings, dropping him four spots to 10th.

After the fight concluded last month, the decision was immediately labeled as a “robbery.” by most fans.  Ngannou dropped Fury in the third round and held his own against the lineal heavyweight champion. His sensational performance sparked debates and motivated other UFC fighters to try and transition into boxing. Despite that fact, after WBC decided to rank Ngannou in the top 10, it left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.

Francis Ngannou in the top 10 attracts ridicule

Recently, iFL TV turned to X (formerly Twitter), sharing the update, but the news attracted negative reactions more than anything else. The tweet read, “NGANNOU ENTERS THE WBC TOP 10 ‼️ Francis Ngannou has entered the WBC’s heavyweight rankings at #10 following his performance against Tyson Fury last month. Thoughts?”

One user confidently asserted that the top ten for Ngannou was too high because of his inexperience.

Another user highlighted the fact that Ngannou has zero wins while claiming it makes the sport look like a joke.

Even the next user had a similar opinion about the decision from WBC. The user went as far as to question when Jake Paul would get a spot in the rankings.

Someone else suggested that the decision diminishes the efforts of all the other heavyweight boxers.

One user questioned how Ngannou is ranked in the top ten without winning a single fight.

The ‘Predator’ Ngannou on Fury’s power

Ngannou is widely known as the hardest hitter in the combat world, something that has been well-recorded. However, what does the hardest hitter in MMA think about Fury’s power? While appearing in an interview with Showtime Sports, Ngannou told host Brain Custer the answer to that question.

According to Ngannou, Fury packs quite the power behind his punches because he ate some of them. Fury punches pretty good. I ate some of his shots — he punches very strong,” said Ngannou. He went on to compare the glove sizes in UFC and boxing, giving credit to Fury’s power. Ngnannu said, “MMA fights are 4oz gloves. In boxing, it’s 10oz. I think, so far, he is the top [hard hitter.]”
