Jeanie Buss marries comedian boyfriend in Malibu

Jeanie Buss, often occupied with attending masses and delivering crucial business speeches, took a break from her usual routine over the weekend. However, over the weekend, she delivered her vows in an intimate affair on a beach in a heartfelt ceremony. The Lakers owner tied the knot with comedian Jay Mohr on a sunny Sunday during an intimate gathering in Malibu. According to reports, approximately 20 close friends and family members were present to witness the special occasion.

Sixty-one years old, Buss and Mohr, 53, have not officially disclosed details from their special day. However, they had been in a relationship for several years before publicly acknowledging their love in 2021.

Jay Mohr initially gained fame as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. He later became a prominent figure in the popular film Jerry Maguire. In addition to his acting career, Mohr has found success in producing, including founding NBC‘s Last Comic Standing. Additionally, he has also made waves in radio broadcasting with FOX Sports.

How did Jeanie get hold of the Lakers?

In 1979, a chemist and successful businessman, Jerry Buss, bought the Lakers from Canadian-American businessman Jack Kent Cooke. His ownership brought great success to the team and paved the way for his daughter, Jeanie, to take over. Jeanie’s journey started with academic excellence, as she graduated with honors in business from the University of Southern California (USC). 

Jeanie started her journey with the Lakers in her mid-30s as the president of The Forum. Over the years, her role in the Lakers organization expanded. In 1995, Jeanie became an Alternate Governor on the NBA Board of Governors, and by the age of 38, she was promoted to executive vice president of business operations for the Lakers.

Sadly, in 2013, Jerry Buss passed away after battling cancer. He left his 66% ownership of the Lakers to his six children, each holding an equal vote. As part of Jerry’s succession plan, Jeanie assumed his previous title as the Lakers’ governor, becoming the team’s representative at the NBA Board of Governors.

Apart from her heroics with the Lakers, Jeanie took significant responsibilities early on. She became the general manager of TeamTennis at 19. She later acquired the Los Angeles Blades roller hockey team, earning recognition as the Executive of the Year in the Roller Hockey International league.
