Devin Booker‘s love for football is well-known among fans and the sporting community. He holds immense love for the city of Detroit and all the sporting events circumnavigating around it. Of course, he couldn’t resist commenting on recent history made by Jared Goff and Co. with the Lions gaining a massive victory and winning a long-due playoff game.
The NBA star stands among many others touched by this victory. His opinion here matters from a core fan’s perspective hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, who were yet to witness a tremendous victory such as this. Of course, being an NFL fan, he didn’t shy away from expressing himself about how important his moment was, especially after his team recently won against the Indiana Pacers and that their local NFL team had never won an NFL playoff game before.
This is what he said, “No because I’ve never seen it. This one’s for the whole city, the whole state. There’s been a lot of Sundays of family gatherings that all turned out the same. … It’s history right before our eyes.”

Devin Booker on if he can give his Lions perspective as a Grand Rapids kid: "No because I've never seen it. This one's for the whole city, the whole state. There's been a lot of Sundays of family gatherings that all turned out the same. … It's history right before our eyes."

The last time the Lions played for the NFL title was back in 1957 when they won against the Browns (59-14). They also beat the Browns for the title in 1952 and ’53, taking home the championship in ’53 as well. Famously, they’ve only had 1 playoff win since their ’57 accomplishment, until last week against the Los Angeles Rams. The Lions also beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to move further, inching closer to their first Super Bowl.
Booker is surely proud that an underdog team like the Lions is finally getting closer to their ultimate goal, ready to take on the 49ers soon. But this isn’t the first time he’s displayed his love for the NFL team like this. He’s done that quite a few times. Do you remember the one time he made a pit-stop to watch the Lions live in action before making it to his preseason Suns’ game?

Devin Booker paying homage to Detroit
All through his career, there’s one thing that’s common for Booker – i.e. his love for his home state. He supports not just basketball but other sports teams as well. People have often seen him wearing different jerseys and gear to different sporting events, especially when a team from Detroit is playing. He once said, “Detroit sports is my life“, after attending a Lions game earlier in 2023 before making it to his preseason game.
Considering how close Little Caesars Arena is to Ford Field, he decided to make a pit stop and watch the Lions hosting the Carolina Panthers. He said, “(this is) something I always wanted to do as a kid“. Further adding, “I’ve been a fan of all of them, Detroit Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers, and obviously the Lions. Just touching back into my roots, how I grew up”.
