The Los Angeles Lakers created history when they became the first In-Season tournament. The Lakers dominated the Pacers and won the game by a comprehensive scoreline of 123-109. LeBron James added not one, but two new accolades to his illustrious trophy collection. He won the first In-Season tournament MVP, along with the NBA Cup. The G.O.A.T. debate is back in full swing after LeBron’s tournament victory.

However, NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe thinks LeBron deserves an even more special honor. Sharpe alluded to the fact that he had conversations with Adam Silver about the same.

LeBron became the first player to win the NBA Cup MVP awards, after leading the Lakers to the title. This has led many to suggest that the award should be named after King James. Shannon Sharpe falls in that category, and he recently revealed a private conversation with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. During a conversation with Stephen A. Smith on First Take, Sharpe said, “I had a conversation with Adam Silver. I think we might name the MVP (In-Season) after GOAT James. I think Goat James should have that award named after him.”

Sharpe’s suggestion isn’t ignorant. After all, the NBA has a longstanding tradition of naming awards after legends. The Finals MVP is named after Bill Russell, regular season is named after Michael Jordan, and the All-Star MVP trophy is named after Kobe Bryant. LeBron certainly deserves the honor of a trophy being named after him. He is one of the greatest players to ever play in the NBA. However, Lebron won’t dwell on the In-Season tournament victory too much because there is a long season ahead. He would look to claim his 5th NBA title, and further cement his legacy as an NBA great.

The NBA Cup win would provide an immense confidence and morale boost to the Lakers roster. However, winning the Larry O’Brien trophy is a much harder task. The Lakers have shown immense promise this season, as evidenced by their NBA Cup win. Nevertheless, they still aren’t a finished article, as there are some glaring weaknesses in their roster.

LA possesses two of the best players in the NBA. But, other than AD and LeBron, the Lakers severely miss a third option who can consistently score. Austin Reaves has tried to fill in that role, but he has averaged just 14.1 points and 4.7 assists this season. The team needs to address this problem promptly in order to be seriously considered as title favorites. With LeBron almost 39-years-old, time is running out for King James to clinch another NBA crown.
