The NBA today is home to some of the biggest sporting icons in the world. While most of them are famous for their basketball exploits, many are known for other reasons such as fashion. With the deals being handed out today, it’s no surprise that the drip has evolved accordingly. Players like Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson were few draft prospects who adorned themselves with clothes made for runway shows.

While it is generally acceptable for people to do as they please, the attires bring unwanted attention to the players especially when underperforming. Former NBA star John Salley recently brought this point up when speaking of the younger generation of hoopers.

John Salley is critical of young players and their attire

John Salley has been a part of the NBA since the ’80s. A 4-time NBA champion with three different teams in three different decades, the once-TV host is quite beloved within the NBA community. During an appearance on Vlad TV the former champion sounded off the younger generation with regard to their fashion.

On a night of many highs and lows for the younger generation of players, John Salley’s comments is the last thing the prospects may be interested in. But there is some credibility in his comments. Explaining his remarks, he says, “I just want to say that in the draft some of your outfits are terrible and trash! Period.”

Emphasizing on what he disliked the most he continued, “The chain with your shirt and your suit, cut it out, not a rapper, stop it.” While his comments might be misread by many rap enthusiasts, he did make it clear it was the outfits and not the genre when he stated, “Dress like 50 cent, 50 cent dress like a professional athlete used to. Just like going into business.”

Which player might the statement be directed at?

John Salley’s comments do carry some weight as some players outfits were really over the top. On a night where Victor Wembanyama stole all the limelight the Frenchman was actually dressed for the part. The same couldn’t be said for Scoot Henderson though as he had quite the glittery outfit. It was made worse by his choice of shoes which many fans pointed out as being plain heels.

Although Henderson had a bright look, Salley’s comments fit right in line with Gradey Dick. The 13th overall pick was a walking red diamond as he glittered into the NBA Draft wearing a sparkling ruby red Tuxedo with shoes to match.
