Professional golfer and six-time major winner Phil Mickelson is known as one of the biggest gamblers in the world. Another prolific athlete who enjoys golfing and is seen on the golf course a lot after his retirement is the Chicago Bulls legend, Michael Jordan. It’s where he spends most of his time nowadays.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, this business tycoon and professional sports figure revealed this about Michael Jordan during his time on the green.

Michael Jordan spent most of his time on the golf course

One of the most successful sports bettors of all time is William T. Walters, also known as Billy Walters. In his recent interview with SI for the promotion of his book ‘Gambler‘, Bill Walters revealed playing golf with the NBA legend. Billy stated that Michael Jordan is one of the most unassuming people he has ever met.

He went on to say that he is a big fan of Michael Jordan and has shared a few games with him on the golf course. Walters also revealed that they used to bet $100 on matches when they played casually against each other. He continued by saying that he had a lot of fun with Jordan, and they used to share stories with each other.

Charles Barkley has also revealed during an episode of the Dan Patrick Show that Jordan once bet $300,000 for a single putt in golf. But this doesn’t come close to how much Phil Mickelson has bet during his time.

The gambler who betted over a billion dollars

Billy Walters has gone on record to say that Phil Mickelson has bet more than a billion dollars in the past three decades. Walters continued by saying that he does not know if Phil Mickelson has bet at tournaments in which he has competed. He added that it would be horrifying if he did so.

But this in fact sent a major shockwave among the community when he was alleged to have bet on the 2012 Ryder Cup based on what was written in parts of Walters’s book. Phil Mickelson gave out a statement regarding this accusation, saying that he had never done so in his own game and that he would never devalue the integrity of the sport.
