There are very few people in world history who have left behind such a massive legacy as the creator of some of the most beloved comic book characters, Stan Lee. While there are several reasons the world adores Stan, his constant urge to create something better made him stand out.

Recently, NBA veteran Carmelo Anthony revealed a little-known fact about his relationship with the Marvel genius. The 39-year-old said that he was once in conversation with the Spiderman creator about something that would’ve made Melo stand amongst superheroes.

Melo was one of the most talented athletes of his time and is often regarded as one of the best scorers to ever play the game. He was, and still is highly respected in the world of basketball by his fans and peers alike. So it’s quite obvious why someone like him, especially with the good guy image and impressive athletic ability, would be a great fit for a comic book character. Melo is also a huge art enthusiast and also boasts some fine art pieces which were made by some of the most famous artists in the world. Adding a Marvel character would have been an icing on the cake, for which he was approached by Stan.

During his recent conversation with Sean Evans of the Hot Ones, he talked about a conversation he had with Stan a long time ago. Melo said that Stan called him and said that he was thinking of a character who would play basketball during the day and fight crime at night. Stan had the vision of developing this character around the NBA legend and making it into a DVD series. Although the concept never came to fruition, Melo said that he is eternally grateful for the effort that the late legend put into it.

The NBA veteran said that Stan had started working on it and to this day, he can’t find any of the sketches that were done for the series.

Not many fans remember this, but Melo was featured in a Game of Thrones promo about a decade ago. He has been a long-time fan of the series and has one of the most impressive artwork at his house. During a recent conversation with Architectural Digest, the NBA veteran showed off his impressive art collection. Among the several priceless things he owns, a giant statue of the Iron Throne from the series sits right in the center.
