The Coach Prime bug is inescapable. Just ask Kevin Garnett. The NBA legend is only one of the many basketball stars fawning over the Colorado Buffaloes coach. The underdog team is enjoying its best season in decades thanks in part to Deion Sanders’ own kids in the team. His parenting principles have since become a hot topic and Garnett highlighted how the Super Bowl champion made his kids gridiron-ready.
Garnett is swept in the Prime Time effect. He not only endorses Sanders, he’s also not tolerant of his critics. A dad of three, the Boston Celtics star is showing agreement with Sanders’ stance on tough love.

Kevin Garnett subscribes to the Prime Parenting Handbook
While Deion Sanders transforms the Colorado Buffaloes football team, he’s gaining fans within the basketball circles. Leading the charge is Kevin Garnett. It’s become a daily ritual for him to share a Prime Time tidbit. This time Garnett shared Coach Prime’s parenting philosophy on his Instagram Stories.
Speaking at an event, Sanders talks about parents who are soft on their kids and pamper them. To those parents, he said, “You created a cat, not a dog, a cat.” This clip has gone viral over social media with millions of views before it appeared on KG’s feed. Highlighting the differences between domesticated cats and dogs, Sanders blames the parents for how their children turn out. “It’s because of you and we got to deal with it,” he points at the parents in the crowd.

“So you were trying to raise a dog, but you raised a cat. Now you get mad at yourself ’cause dog-like situations come about, and you expect ‘Little Timmy’ to be tough and ‘Little Wanda’ to be abrasive and ready to stand up to the trials and tribulations of life. But guess what, you raised a cat.”
Sanders’ statements have found agreement across the board, including from Garnett. While sharing the clip, he added the comments, “Yup about right,” and “Mmmm made sense!” along with thinking and 100 score emojis.

Coach Prime has repeated this policy on several occasions. He claims he wants his children to have the tenacity to face every situation. He’s often disparaged the parents of the young footballers in his charge for coddling them. He has his softer moments too.

The Buffs are led by Shedeur Sanders, the retired NFL pro’s son. Shiloh Sanders, Shedeur’s brother, is also on the team. Speaking about how he draws the line between coach and dad, Coach Prime resonated with many pro athletes with kids. Shaquille O’Neal was among them. Magic Johnson is also hoping to emulate the winning coach with the Washington Commanders.
When he’s not taking parenting tips from Sanders, Garnett is taking on the Buffs’ rivals. Unfortunately, Colorado’s winning streak took a hit this Sunday.

The Oregon Ducks beat them 42-6. Just like he doesn’t “raise cats,” Sanders graciously accepted defeat and is now prepping for the next game. Coach Prime fans like Kevin Garnett are deflated but still in his corner for sure.
