Two decades have passed since Dwyane Wade cemented his legacy at Marquette University by leading his team to the final four in the NCAA basketball tournament. Now, years after retiring from the NBA, Wade is giving back to his alma mater by pledging to donate $3 million to help improve several facilities at the university.

The Miami Heat selected Dwyane Wade 5th overall in the 2003 NBA draft. To this day, he still remains the highest draft pick to come out of Marquette University. So, his donation is also focusing on improving its basketball program.

According to ESPN, Dwyane Wade’s donation is, first of all, set to improve the university’s summer reading program for Milwaukee children. Then, a new scholarship program is implemented for low-income students. Finally, Wade said the money would go towards building a new practice facility while also improving and expanding the existing athletic and human performance research center.

During half-time, Wade announced his donation to the university.

So, this is not Dwyane Wade’s first donation to the university. In 2015, he initially funded the university’s Ralph C. Hartman Literacy and Learning Center. It is a summer reading camp that Wade funded through the Wade’s World Foundation. He has not stopped working on it, as he pledged again in 2022 to keep the program running until 2025.

Dwyane Wade wants other students and athletes to have the chance that he did when he made his way to Marquette. So, his donations are in the hopes of improving the lives of the younger generation.
