Former North American Champion and one part of the now defunct tag team, MSK, Wes Lee, had announced in December that he would be needing back surgery as an old injury resurfaced. It was also announced that he would be out of action for almost a year. However, just days after this announcement, Lee provided a positive update about his condition and fans can now rejoice.
How is Wes Lee doing?
In a tweet on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the NXT star tweeted about his current well-being. While the message is quite brief, it could be assumed that the 29-year-old star is on the road to recovery. He tweeted, “walking…” with an emoji showing that he is grateful for his current health condition.

On December 15, 2023, days after the announcement, Lee posted a gif on his X account. The GIF had anime character Goku shown in what is known by fans as a ‘Medicine Machine.’ The machine has significance in the lore as the characters used the machine for grave injuries. The GIF might be his way of announcing that he will now be undergoing treatment.
As many back surgeries require the patient to be immobilized for some time, it could be assumed that Lee was asked to do the same. While the nature of the injury was unknown, it was announced by him that he had pain and loss of sensations in his legs, leading some to believe it could have been some kind of back or spinal injury.
Just like Charlotte Flair who’ll be missing on Royal Rumble 2024, fans might also not be able to see Lee on many PLEs. However, it should not be forgotten that Lee has already lost a golden opportunity due to this injury.
How did Lee lose on a golden opportunity?
Wes Lee announced on the December 5, 2023, episode of NXT that he would be undergoing surgery shortly for his back injury. This was just days before his title shot against Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship title. Due to the injury, he had to drop out of the bout. Following this announcement, Dirty Dom joked he would be having a night off at NXT Deadline as he does not have any challengers.

However, it was later announced by Rey Mysterio that Dragon Lee would be filling in for Wes Lee. What followed next was the luchador pinning The Judgment Day member and snatching away his belt from him. While his reign was short-lived, Dragon Lee replaced Wes Lee during a time that could have been a turning point in his career. Do you think Wes Lee will go for the title once he recovers from his injuries?
