Last year, the wrestling world was in shock when WWE announced that Vince McMahon will be stepping down. After spending more than four decades in the company, he stepped down as the CEO and Chairman of WWE. From the Golden Era of wrestling to the Attitude Era to the PG Era, everyone had seen their fair share of McMahon running things.

McMahon had to step down because there was an internal investigation. WWE formed the committee to look into McMahon’s past payments to suppress allegations of misconduct against him. But they came out to the other side with no evidence against the previous head. So, McMahon returned to the company’s board on January 2023. But this investigation proved to be costly for McMahon at least financially.

Vince McMahon pays WWE a hefty sum to cover the costs of the internal investigation

Earlier today, the New York Post reported that McMahon paid $17.4 million to cover the investigation costs against him. This is intriguing because McMahon was the prime target of the investigation in the first place.

Back in July 2022, Wall Street Journal reported that the former CEO of WWE was being investigated on the charge of paying company money to suppress misconduct allegations. This made a headline immediately as it left everyone wondering about the state of the company moving forward.

But then his daughter, Stephanie McMahon, son-in-law, Triple H, and Nick Khan, took over his responsibilities and managed to keep the company going. But fortunately for McMahon, nothing came up from the investigation and he returned to the company’s board earlier this year.

While there were rumors about McMahon returning to handling the booking side of things, no reports have confirmed anything. Moreover, the owner of the company is busy with another shocking venture.

The only thing that sparked interest after McMahon’s return was the topic of the boss finally selling his company, one that he build up from the territorial WWWF to a global juggernaut. From AEW’s Tony Khan to Saudi Arabia, everyone was mentioned as a potential buyer. But nothing has materialized yet.

Only time will tell where WWE ends up going, but one thing is for sure McMahon will have a major say in the future of his company.
