Throughout its run, the WWE has made several changes to its content and packaging. It has also rebranded its logo a few times. The changes have affected the existing title designs as a result. One of the designs that struck a chord with the WWE Universe, is also held special by current superstar Cody Rhodes. The 38-year-old has pointed a finger at reigning Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes as a hurdle for WWE to revive this special championship.
Rhodes made the comment during an exclusive sit-down interview with Alfred Konuwa of Forbes.

What did Cody Rhodes say about Patrick Mahomes?
Rhodes spoke about a variety of subjects during the interview, one of which was the Winged Eagle WWE Championship. That version of the belt was in the promotion for a decade, before being replaced by another design. But it remains a favorite with many fans, including Rhodes.

Rhodes said, “My thinking with the Winged Eagle is it was such a special championship to me growing up.” He then joked that Mahomes was one of the reasons why the WWE won’t be bringing back the old design.
“They like the giant W design (laughs), plus Pat Mahomes was wearing the title after winning the Super Bowl, so I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon,” he said.
For the unversed, while Mahomes plies his trade in the NFL and has won the prestigious Super Bowl twice, he’s also quite the WWE fan. The fanfare was on full display during the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory celebration, just days after he won his second Super Bowl. The $40 million rich quarterback was seen celebrating with his customized WWE belt that was gifted to his team by the WWE Head of Creative Triple H.
Getting back to Rhodes and his special championship, this wasn’t the first time he has been vocal about the Winged Eagle. The Prince of Pro Wrestling had earlier stated his desire to get back the design.
When Cody Rhodes wanted to boil the other belts in order to bring back the Winged Eagle
As a kid growing up in the 80s and 90s, many have remained witness to champions such as Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and others wearing the Winged Eagle belt around their waists. The American Nightmare was also one such kid, who grew up watching these legends.
While he informed Forbes that he is in possession of the belt, earlier this year, Rhodes hinted at bringing back the design, before his match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.

Speaking on WWE’s The Bump, he said if he gets to win against Reigns, it would be “fun to say, ‘Let’s just boil them down and bring back the Winged Eagle.’”
Rhodes failed in his attempt and Reigns is still the champion. If he continues to be so, there is a possibility that the two could meet at WrestleMania 40 for a rematch.
