Good news for Chennai’s Cricket fans!

After much speculation of whether or not the Chepauk Stadium will hold a World T20 game, there seems to be a ray of hope. The stadium is one the best in the country and the newly constructed stands (G, H and I) require Environmental Clearance to host the ICC event scheduled to commence in March next year.

According to reports, the BCCI and ICC officials had a meeting to decide on the possible venues for the tournament. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has shown optimism in getting the Environmental Clearance much before the event is scheduled.

“A part of the Madras Cricket Club gymnasium needs to be demolished to get the requisite 8m space between the stands and the next building. TNCA has promised that it will be done much ahead of the World Cup and if that happens, Chennai should stay in the list. Chepauk is after all a very important venue of Indian cricket,” a BCCI source said.

This will be the first time when India will host an ICC event without any collaboration with other countries. Therefore, the BCCI officials are leaving no stone unturned to put up a grand show for the World T20 extravaganza.

As per sources, Chepauk has been included in the list of possible venues and it will be up to BCCI to decide which games will be awarded to which venue. The Chennai fans will be ecstatic to hear the news and one can expect loads of “whistle-podu” if India plays a match here in Chennai.
