Conor McGregor Surprises Everyone by Backing Jose Aldo

Over the years Conor McGregor has managed to create some huge rivalries with his opponents. Sometimes things get a little dirty during the fight promotion as it did against Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, we have often seen mutual respect between McGregor and his opponent. Recently, Max Holloway came out and appreciated McGregor for supporting him during tough times. And now Conor has come out to support former featherweight king, Jose Aldo.

After losing his title to Max Holloway, Jose Aldo had a disappointing journey in the featherweight division. Aldo missed his opportunity to regain his title after losing to Alexander Volkanovski by decision. And now Aldo is set to make his bantamweight debut against former no 1 contender in the division, Marlon Moraes.

This decision does not make sense if you consider the fact that Aldo struggled to make weight for the featherweight division. Hence there are some concerns about whether he would be able to make weight for the fight. And even if he makes weight will he be able to perform at his best?

Recently Aldo came out and said that he is strictly following the diet to make weight and the results are obvious from his recent photos.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reacted to Aldo’s image saying:

The former two-division champion, Conor McGregor disagreed with Helwani and showed support to his former rival, Aldo and stated:

“I disagree here. He looks more than on top of it in my experienced opinion. Well trimmed in advance, and naturally a lighter man now. This can only be done over a long length of time and with complete dedication. Respect! I wish him well and am excited to see him in the division.”

When Helwani asked whether the move to bantamweight at this point of Aldo’s career is necessary, McGregor replied with:

“The rejuvenation of your career with fresh goals and targets! The prestige of being a UFC World champion in two weight divisions! The feeling of excitement you will give the fans with all the new potential match-ups that can be made! All great and valid reasons!”

After witnessing the rivalry between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor it is safe to say that fans will be happy to see McGregor backing his former opponents.
