Wimbledon’s sensation, Cori Coco Gauff continued her tennis wizardry in her home country of the United States of America. The top seed at Citi Open’s qualifiers, Coco defeated her compatriot, Maegan Manasse and Japan’s 28-year-old eight seed, Hiroko Kuwata to make it to the main draw of the WTA event in the American capital, Washington D.C.
Against, WTA’s 338th ranked Manasse she held a 6-1, 6-2 victory and against 265th ranked Kuwata she won 6-4, 6-2. Beginning from the qualifiers at Wimbledon, all her victories were straight-set wins. The 15-year-old, Cori Coco Gauff received a wildcard for the Miami Open this year and presently she dwells on 141st spot on the WTA Rankings.
In the opening round of Citi Open 2019, the young American, Coco will play the Kazakh tennis player, Zarina Diyas. Diyas is ranked 98th on the WTA scale and she previously won a title in 2017 at Japan Open as a qualifier. Besides that, she has won eight ITF titles. At Wimbledon 2019, Diyas lost in the opening round to Danielle Collins.
At Wimbledon Championships 2019, Cori Coco Gauff fell to the ultimate champion, Simona Halep in straight sets but her first-round win against her childhood idol, Venus Williams resonated the Court Number one at All England Club.
As she makes it to her third main draw appearance, Coco mentioned about just staying focused and playing each point whole-heartedly. She has worked upon her shortcomings from Wimbledon and she continues to be a learner on the tennis court. She is confident about her journey in Washington D.C.
Coco Gauff will be seen on the doubles court of Washington’s tournament where she will be in tandem with her compatriot, Catherine McNally. In the women’s draw, the three American women, Sloane Stephans, Madison Keys, and Sofia Kenin take the top three seed spots at Citi Open 2019.
